Question about a bump?!

Question:

Question about a bump?

ive got a bump on the back of my head that i just knowticed today. Ive done some research and figured it was a occipital bone. I asked my mom about it, and she said that its nothing and thats its just a bone that connects to your spine. When i felt hers on the back of her head, and was shaped vertically, whereas mine is shaped horizontally. Im sure this is not a tumor, but i would just like to be sure.
When i touch it, it doesnt hurt or anything, it just feels like a bone in the middle of the back of my head.

Answers:

Your mother is right, it IS your occipital bone. You can look it up on-line or in a book. But your best bet, if you're a "HANDS ON" type of person, is to actually find a life-size skeleton or at least the skull so that you can see and feel this portion of the skull and bone for yourself. You'll see that it's perfectly normal. Check with a local school science lab (you may have to try a college offering summer courses, since high schools are closed now), or possible even a library. If not there, check with a local doctor's office.
