How and or why does holding you breath effect your heart rate?!

Question:

How and or why does holding you breath effect your heart rate?

I was thinking about it when I was in the pool

Answers:

when your heart beats it goes to your lungs to get the oxygen then to your brain then back to your heart and to the rest of your body. So when you hold your breath the blood isn't picking up the oxygen, hence, the slower heartrate
