If the hair on your body is supposed to keep you warm, why does your hair stand !

Question:

If the hair on your body is supposed to keep you warm, why does your hair stand up when you get cold?

Answers:

Anytime you use your muscles, even if they are tiny, you generate heat. When the tiny muscles around your 1000's of hair follicles contract to make your hair stand up, you are generating heat that warms your body.
