Has anyone had their esophagus stretched/dialated? If so, how long was it befor!

Question:

Has anyone had their esophagus stretched/dialated? If so, how long was it before you could eat?

My husband had an endoscopy done Friday afternoon and they found what the Dr. was sure was H. Pylori. Since my husband had had trouble getting food and liquids down, he stretched his esophagus for him (using the biggest dialator they had) since then, he has been able to get liquids down fine (for the first time in almost a week, so its a good sign of prgoress) but has not been able to get things thicker than water/gatorade down yet. Should I be alarmed yet....they did say it could take a few days to have him feeling up to it, but he's soooo weak...and really needs the food. I have talked to several people who have had just the endoscopy, but noone who has had the stretching done. So if you have, can you give a little advice? Thanks!

I called them this morning, they basically said wait and see what the bioposy says....didn't really answer my question about the food! Not sure what dialator they used....all I know is the Dr. said he stretched it as much as possible.

Answers:

We do that all day long here. If he was stretched with a pneumatic dilator, then it may be different, but the standard balloon dilater would not have any restrictions as to when you can eat again. If he is still unable to take solids, then you should be calling his gastroenterologist to discuss this.
