How long do I need to take off work when I have my tonsils removed?

I do not do heavy work. I work in a doctor's office.

I was told like 10 to 27 days due to the pain medication but it seems very extreme. I have know people in the past that had them removed but never stayed out of work that long.

When I had my tonsils taken out I was out for almost 3 weeks! So it depends on the person and their age. I think I was 22.
