There are a lot of medications that work well (excedrine's my favorite, because it combines tylenol, aspirn, and caffeine).
There are some . . . more holistic things that sometimes help.
A "chinese remedy" is to swing your arms back and forth. it's supposed to divert the blood from your head to your extremities, and reduce the headache.
Another alternative treatment is to open your hand, and use the other hand to pinch the area between your thumb and index finger . . . that little web of skin.
Sex is also great -- it releases endorphines, which are the body's natural pain killers.
Headaches can have different causes . . . stress, blood pressure, anger . . . locating the cause is key to prevention and successful treatment.
