Definitely. We have all experienced it. Recently some researchers theorized that the act of yawning is a physiological change of state. That is like when one is adjusting from alertness to sleep mode or vice versa. They continue that in ancient times this contagious effect had a positive affect on the survival of primitive groups by alerting all the members to action as in time of attack or other danger. ( Maybe even sleepy time reproductive fun? - my guess)
