Question:

Little brother having surgery?

my little brother is almost 4. on aug 3, he is having surgery bc he has a hernia. they are going to put him to sleep. im rly scared, isnt it risky when they put little kids to sleep?

Answers:

It is scary when a little one goes into surgery, but putting kids under anesthesia only carries a small risk. The risk is in a person having a reaction to it and then it causing problems. This is for all people, not just children. It is like a bee sting. Most people have no problem, but 1 person out of a million might die from one. Most often routine surgeries go on without a hitch. With that said, make sure he does not sneak any food or drink past midnigt or the morning of.

My daughter has serious hear defects and has been through more than 14 surgeries where she has had to be under anesthesia. The first one she was 3 days old. It is always scary, but you should talk to the anesthesiologist before the surgery and tell them your concerns. We always talk to the surgeons and anesthesiologist before an operation. You have the right to be reassured.

Make sure your little bro knows you are there for him. That kind of thing helps more then people realize.

Good luck
