Can anyone give me info on digoxen the results of having too much of this medica!

Question:

Can anyone give me info on digoxen the results of having too much of this medication in the body?

My elderly mother who has dementia refuses to stay in the hospital shes not eating much and has too much digoxen in her body, my stepfather will not have her forced to stay in hospital, She is also dehydrated, Is this digoxen poisoning going to kill her, I feel so helpless, she doesn't know who I am and I haven't seen her. Does anyone know about digoxen?

Answers:

If you can make sure you step-father or whoever her care giver might be is not overdosing her with the Digoxin. Do you know what level Dementia your mother has? How long has she suffered from it? I work with the elderly and some tips for helping her with the dehydration is to have other things around with a lot of water in them ( perhaps leave a small plate of watermelon around if she has a favorite drink make it readily available) dehydration is quite common because they forget or will refuse to drink water. When talking to a dementia patient it is always good to use leading questions and conversation instead of anything that might be more like a command for instance.

Wow I'm really thirsty.
Do you think they have water here?
DO you think we could go get some?

Let it seem like there idea and they will be more responsive. Try to keep conversation short and simple they get confused very easily. Watch out for glare or windows that might cast a lot of shadows because it can be very frustrating or confusing. As far as colors never wear white dementia patients cant see white. So if your in a full white suit you will look like a floating head quite scary. Wear contrasting colors to reduce confusion. Black pants green shirt purple shirt ect.

If your stepfather has not tired it yet maybe try to take her to a boarding home or a retirement/assisted living home an there is always the option of a live in caregiver who is trained to work with dementia patients.

I hope this helps and if you need anything else you can e-mail me if you'd like. eawolfe22@hotmail.com
