Can i wear my contact lenses while flying long distances??

I was on a flight once for 15 hours straight. I had my contacts in, but I brought my glasses along just in case. On the flight, my contacts irritated me. They were dry and uncomfortable (even though I did bring along solution). I took them out and just wore my glasses...
I've only ever flown once, so I'm not sure if that had anything to do with my contacts irritating me. But, they did bug me on that flight....so I suggest glasses.
