Painful flashbacks after a concussion?!

Question:

Painful flashbacks after a concussion?

My girlfriend had a concussion the other day leaving her with hadly any memory, but she has started today to have little flashbacks. She has a ton of pain in her head when she has one. Is this normal or should I be concerned?

Answers:

I fainted and hit my head really badly once, I was kept in hospital for checks. The following week I had the worst headache you could ever imagine, my GP came out a number of times as the concern was that I was having a bleed, the GP checked me out and said that it was really bad concussion as when you have a head injury your brain literally gets jolted around inside your head. The headache subsided after about 7 days, during this time I couldnt get out of bed was photophobic and vomitting! Once the headache left I discovered that I had lost my sense of smell and taste! I was told that this isnt unusual after a head injury, I am glad to say that it did come back eventually, however I still have a small tender lump on the back of my head after 5 years! I would say to your gf, go to your GP or A&E to rule out any sort of bleed, once this has been ruled out the best thing is simple analgesia ibuprofen and paracetamol regularly. hope she feels better soon.
