Choking on nothing?!

Question:

Choking on nothing?

For the second time in the last few days, I started to choke for no reason. I was breathing fine, and all of a sudden I couldn't breathe at all, and started coughing like crazy. My head was throbbing, and I felt hot all over (I think the blood was rushing to my face). It took a few minutes for me to start breathing again, and I thought I was going to pass out for several minutes afterwards, during which time I threw up a bunch of frothing liquid that looked like spit mixed with yellow stomach bile.

The last time it happened I had been lying down when I started choking, and then I sat up and continued choking. That time I threw up WHILE I was choking, and continued choking afterwards. I think I sucked it down my windpipe too, because I could taste it the whole time I was coughing, and for a while afterwards.

I'm kind of worried that I'm going to choke and not be able to breathe again. Does anyone have any idea what's actually happening, or what could be causing this? Thanks...

Answers:

Get to a doctor.
It sounds like asthma. Severe allergy attacks. You're lucky you're not dead.
If you sucked down vomit, you are at risk for pneumonia.
You are having life threatening symptoms and you're asking people for help on the internet instead of going to the hospital??
Please get to the hospital.
I have asthma, and what you described happened to me before, and without the steroids, oxygen, and allergy and asthma meds, I wouldn't be here today. My throat was swollen shut, and my lungs filled with fluid.
What did you do that you hadn't done before? Were you around something like perfume, or cleaning fluid, cigarette smoke, that you hadn't been around before?? Ya gotta figure out what made you sick, so you won't get around it again. Each attack will get worse. So, if you smoked for the first time, don't do it again.
