I have no spleen. Is my life shortened?!


Question:

I have no spleen. Is my life shortened?

I had my spleen removed in a car accident about 10 years ago..does this affect on how long i will live?, or can you function 100% without it?


Answers:

It does not effect your life span per say. It does, however, make you (slightly) more sussceptable to infections with certain bacteria. You need to make sure you are up to date with the available immunizations - talk to your dr.
