Woke from a nap with a numb toe. Ciruculation issue?!

Question:

Woke from a nap with a numb toe. Ciruculation issue?

I woke up earlier from a nap to discover the the big toe and side of my left foot were numb. Usually this quickly turns into needles and pins, returning to normal in a couple of minutes. This time, after 30 minutes the area was still numb. I tried soaking in very hot water to increase circulation...nothing. Tried running 1 mile to increase circulation...nothing. After about 2 hours, the toe and side of my foot began to feel a little tingly to the touch. I assume it's "waking up" slowly. Why is this "waking up" process taking so long, and should I be concerned? Want seeing an MD to be a last resort...no insurance.

Answers:

If you still haven't seen a doctor try looking for a free medical clinic or a doctor who charges on a sliding scale based on your income. I'm not a trained medical professional (I have taken some college level medical courses) but my first thought was a sign of diabetes. Now to contradict myself I often have the same issue in the middle of my foot involving my second and third toes, usually after working out, I had my blood sugar checked and once it came back normal have ignored the problem with no further issues. If your foot ever does it and gets cold to the touch or changes color you should start to worry, but if it happens with no change in your blood sugar and if your case is like mine it seems the trouble is worrisome but harmless. Please let us know, I'm super curious now! Good luck!
