Answers:

Cool Kid, I wrote these tips for a long time smoker.

Your question leads me to believe that your are addicted, too.

Read through my suggestions and use what applies.
Quit smoking guide

You must keep quitting; it will likely take more than one try. You have an addiction.

Here are some things that worked for me. Set the stage. Develop some smoke free situations in your life.

One of my biggest assets was that I had never allowed myself to smoke while working or playing at the computer.

Quit smoking in various places. I quit smoking in the car first. My work place became off limits for smoking.
I quit smoking in the bathroom. I finally got to the point where I had only one place to smoke.

You say that patches do not work for you... They will but not if you try to follow the direction on the box.
We are addicts and it will take longer for each stage ....
Do not rush yourself... this is a matter of life and death ... literally!!!!!!!

Do not worry about gaining weight while quitting...
You can lose the weight later.

Avoid situations, which trigger the craving for cigarettes...for many there
is an association between cigarettes and alcohol. My big trigger is writing essay and theme papers .... I had to quit doing any college course work for several years.

I thought I would need to give up coffee. It turns out that having 2 cups of double strength coffee every morning really helped me.

When you have set the stage.... try those patches again.... be prepared to let each stage of use last several weeks longer than noted on the box.

I threw away the chair where I usually smoked.

I started using the patches... I got a hand held massager and used it on my back and legs at times when I normally smoked. This was just to keep my hands busy and think of something else.

MY SON gave me a great Christmas present.... it was the old 2-D lemmings game..... I played lemmings on the computer instead of smoking;

I found that cheese puffs and ice cream bars helped when nothing else would help. I gained over 40 pounds; I have lost that plus 10 more....

When I was finally ready to give up the patches, I had great luck. (The cigarettes had helped manage much of my joint pain) I was taking too many pain pills ... my niece had read something about SAM-e and suggested I try it for my joint pain. I did and the SAM-e helped me with the joint pain AND I was able to give up that last little nicotine patch....

If you slip and have one cigarette.... that is no big deal... write it down on the calendar and vow or promise your self to do better.... no a.. kicking yourself.... just try again this is hard but you can do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Smoking & Tobacco Use: Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.

I have not smoked a cigarette for over12 years, the secret is to keep on quitting and quit again (learn from each experience) and quit again if you need too.

Hope this helps. !!!!!!
