Question:

Can I catch Shingles from being around someone with it but not touching them?

I'm pregnant and I just found out my uncle has shingles and we were at his house the other day.I have never had chicken pox befor but they say that pregnant woman can still get shingles. Am I safe?

Answers:

NO and YES. No you can't catch shingles, it is a form of chickenpox that reemerges after years of dormancy. YES you can catch something--Chicken Pox. You do need to try and avoid any contact physically with him when his shingles are acting up, so that you don't get chicken pox. It can have adverse effects on your pregnancy. Once anyone has chicken pox, they are possible candidates for shingles much later in life--though my wife had shingles at about 38.
