Is it safe to take hydrocodone/apap and clonazepam together?!

Question:

Is it safe to take hydrocodone/apap and clonazepam together?

I'm taking 5/500 of hydrocodone while recovering from hand surgery. I've also had insomnia for the past couple of months now and the doctor prescribed me 0.5mg of clonazepam for that. Tonight will be my first night taking both so I guess I was wondering if I should take them at separate times or if it's ok to take them together.

Answers:

I work at a pharmacy and I have seen all kinds of combinations. As long as the Dr has prescibed them together and is aware that you are or will be taking both meds its OK. Take it an hour before your actually go to bed. It takes a little while to kick in. And if you don't need to take your pain med then don't. Most of those are prescribed "as needed" anyway. The only thing is the side effects are very similar between the meds. But if you don't want to feel like your head is floating in the morning just take half instead of the whole pill just to see if its enough to get you a good nights rest and to see how you feel in the morning. Then if your OK then just continue with the 1/2 or if you feel you need to take the whole thing then go ahead just as long as you feel comfortable with it. My mom took 1/2 instead of 1 and she didn't like the way she felt in the morning. Her brother past away and she couldn't sleep but she's doing alot better and doesn't take them any more. Hope you feel better and take care if you have any other concerns call your pharmacist or Dr.
