I'm addicted to Excedrins and I cant stop taking them!!?!

Question:

I'm addicted to Excedrins and I cant stop taking them!!?

This is going to make me look like a disturbed person but I dont know what to do. I have an addiction to Excedrin. I've been taking them since around 1995. I chew them & swallow so I can taste the bitterness of the aspirin because it reminds me of the bitter taste of cocaine. (I had a cocaine habit back in 1983/1984.) Excedrins also have caffeine & the "up" feeling of them also remind me of the effect I got when I used cocaine. I also smoke alot of cigarettes when I use Excedrins, just like I did when I sniffed coke. I no longer sniff coke but years ago I had an off & on addiction to painkillers. I dont take those anymore either.

I'm afraid of what damage I'm doing to myself, if I havent done extensive damage already, but I JUST CANT QUIT TAKING THE ASPIRINS & CANT QUIT SMOKING EITHER!!

I need help, can someone please help or advise me? I've been to rehabs before and NA also. I even told my doctor but she didnt send me to a rehab, she just said "stop taking them", but I CANT!!!

Answers:

Sounds like you have one crappy doctor. If you can, find a different one who will actually help you instead of assuming this is all under your control (it's pretty obvious to me that it's gotten out of your control) and thinking that you can just stop anytime. In the meantime, try doing what some people do to quit smoking: gradually limit the amount you take each day. If you're an organized kind of person, try getting a calendar to write how much you're going to take each day, and gradually make the amounts smaller until you're not taking any. The catch with that is, you have to be able to follow it (another person may have to help you with that).
