depends on your point of view. if you are jewish it is custom and required for the faith. if you are christian it would be more of a borrowed faith from judism. i have yet to see anywhere it is called for christians to preform a bris on their male children.
as for medically necessary.... well it depends on who you ask. personally i don't see it medically necessary so to speak. but this is as long as it is kept clean and pulled back. (don't want to get too descriptive).
but as the parent you have to do what you think is best for your child. not only for today but their future. after all his wife will be the one who will be more interested in what you decide to do later in life. they both will have to live with your decision.
a woman might be better off giving you feedback on this particular subject. you get the idea.
