Lower Back Pain...?!

Question:

Lower Back Pain...?

My lower back constantly aches when I wake up in the morning. I have a very firm, custom made futon mattress. Short of buying a new mattress (like a PosturePedic), what can I do to stop this? It is a dull ache, that gets a little better over the course of the day, but typically needs either a massage or a hottub to go away. Help! :( Thanks in advance

19 year old female, EXTREMELY acute Spina Bifita (hairline crack in a vertabrea, hasnt affected development or lifestyle), I sleep on my stomach with one leg up, or on my side. Switch to sleeping on my back once it starts hurting around 3 am. I bought the futon mattress because initially it really helped my back. Springy matresses let my back bend while I am sleeping, which results in pain.

Answers:

There are a couple of things that you can try.
One, you can go to a Walmart or some store that sells "eggshell" type pads to go under your sheet and on top of your mattress. It is the kind that old people use for sore joints and back.
I have one, i am 39, and have herniated discs from top of my neck to my lower back and I love it. It reduces the pain and makes getting up easier.
Two- place a pillow between your knees when you sleep at night, just a standard pillow will do. This will ease the pain from your hips and lower back as well.

Hope this helps!
