What causes cold sores..?

I want to know what causes cold sores and how to prevent them?

I have never had it,but lately I see quite a few of the youths I lead getting them.

cold sores are mouth herpes and are caused by
*kissing someone with mouth herpes
*giving someone oral sex who has genital herpes
*masturbating(if you have genital herpes) and then touching your mouth
*using someone else's lip gloss or straw
to prevent them use a condom during oral sex, don't kiss someone with a cold sore, don't touch your own herpes and don't put your mouth on something that could have herpes like straws and lipgloss.
