In general how money do medical transcriptionists make?!

Question:

In general how money do medical transcriptionists make?

I am taking a medical transcription class and should be finished soon. I looked this information up prior to starting my class but I want to know from experienced transcriptionists. What the Department of Labor has is just an estimate. I would like to know roughly how much they make, either working in a physicians office or working from home. Thanks in advance for your help.

Ooops! I started typing too fast and didn't pay attention to my question. How much money do medical transcriptionists make?

Answers:

My mom is a medical transcriptionist and has been for the last 7 years. She worked in the office for the first 2 years and has been a work-at-home single mom for the last 5. Before her last company got outsourced, she made roughly $14.10 an hour. Her new company that she is working for pays by the line typed and it's $0.07.5 (7 and a half cents) per line. That equals out to about $12.00 an hour because they have to type a certain amount of lines per hour to keep their job. Hope I helped.
