Many different duties, including running tests on patient's blood- Chemistries including cholesterol, blood sugar, electrolytes and tons of others - Hematology which tests for anemia, infection, leukemias and much more, testing for coagulation factors to evaluate if one's blood is clotting properly, Microbiology which is testing cultures to determine the source of infection and which antibiotics will kill the bad bugs, Urinalysis, Blood Banking which includes typing and crossmatching for transfusions so patients are not given the wrong blood which could kill them- The list can go on and on.
In smaller hospitals you may also be required to draw the blood sample from the patient prior to analysis, as well as being available for around the clock shifts. Most things are done using very sophisticated analyzers, so a Med Tech also needs to be somewhat mechanical and familiar with computers.
