Is socialized medicine a good idea or a bad idea?!

Question:

Is socialized medicine a good idea or a bad idea?

Who would it hurt more, doctors or the patients?

Answers:

There are ups and downs to socialized medicine

positive:
managed prices on meds and doctors care

everyone could get the care they need with out going into debt

preventative healthcare rather than just emergency care (which would lead to healthier Americans and could possibly be cheaper in some aspects.

Could offer bonuses for superior healthcare rather than take a profit approach (everyone gets paid the same no matter how bad the care)

Less lawsuit abuse as it would be government controlled and the doctors would be held to higher standards.

Less problems with doctors getting kickbacks from the drug companies and prescribing unnecessary drugs.

negative:

waiting list for non life threatening surgeries (knee replacement ect..)
higher taxes

possible stifling of new drugs, research, new procedures

doctors would possibly leave (although I'm not sure where they'd go as most 1st world countries already have socialized medicine)

All in all I would say it would be better for the American people but possibly worse for the doctors and pharmacutical companies.
