Does anybody have a remedy for phlebitis?!
Question:
Does anybody have a remedy for phlebitis?
Answers:
I'm assuming that you are talking about phlebitis in a leg when answering this question. Most bouts settle within 2-6 weeks. No treatment may be needed if the symptoms are mild. Treatment aims to ease symptoms.
Keep on with normal activities as much as possible.
A hot flannel placed over the vein may ease the pains, as will painkillers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen.
.
When you rest, if you raise an affected leg so that your foot is higher than your hip, it helps to reduce swelling and discomfort. You can do this by lying on a sofa and putting the leg up on some cushions. When sleeping in bed, you can keep your leg raised by putting it on a pillow. Compression stockings may also help.
If the phlebitis is caused by varicose veins, then once the inflammation has settled, you could consider surgery to remove them to prevent further bouts.
