What is the role of nurses here in the UK?
my daughter was ill yesterday, and sent home from school. I called up the Dr's office to see if they could possibly squeeze her in to see a Dr, i got told they would fit her in and to bring her down in a hour. When i arrived at the Dr's i was informed she was going to see the nurse, who can diagnose illnesses and prescribe medication. i was wondering is this right........ when did nurses start being allowed to take on a similar role to a doctor and why if they havent had all the medical training doctors have.

I know here in the US we have Nurse Practioners who specialize in one specfic area and have additional training in that area are licensed and can work with a physician as you described.
