Can flea bites be dangerous to humans?!

Question:

Can flea bites be dangerous to humans?

I recently moved in with a friend on the other side of the country and have been here for two days. I just found out her cat has fleas (it's been living outside and I've never even seen it). About half an hour ago I noticed some red bumps on my foot. I checked the other foot for bumps too and found a flea. I have about seven bites on my feet alone and have no idea if it's bitten me elsewhere. I told my friend and she gave me some aloe vera and changed my bed sheet. Can these bites cause a real threat? I am allergic to mosquito and insect bites and I have never been bitten by a flea before.

Answers:

They itch - and in the middle ages, it's fleas that spread plague. More of a nasty nuisance - you shouldn't suffer any ill health effects. The cat is probably miserable!

Ya'll need to get rid of them and get the cat some Frontline - you'll need to spray carpets and anywhere they are hiding, they breed fast - so don't wait to start getting rid of them.
