How long do you have to look at the sun for before going blind??!

Question:

How long do you have to look at the sun for before going blind??

I have tried looking at the sun quite a few times, can usually count to about 4 or 5 with each eye before my body makes me look away (probably because of the pain and long term damage it is doing to my retinas).
Obviously no one who is a professional sun spotter will be able to help me, as they will be unable to read this question (unless they have that cool Steven Hawkins voice device thing!), but preferrably someone who has maybe has their vision fade to black from it then recovered it (thinking along the lines of that film Pi (couldnt find the maths symbol on this keyboard) )??
Thanks!

I don't know, but I understand if you look at a total eclipse, the corona of the sun will burn your retinas in a matter of seconds. So, do you go blind faster looking at an eclipse in totality, than you would when looking at the sun in its entirety?
As a child, I would often glimpse at the sun for a second or two. I am now 55 years old, and I do have vision problems. Not blind, but, many floaters and sometimes blurred vision. Is this a result of old age, or a result of the many times I glanced directly at the sun?
Also, how come you can look directly at the sun in the evenings when it is blood red?

Maybe that's why I have vision problems now.
