Why do I faint?!

Question:

Why do I faint?

I have this thing where sometimes if I stand still I faint. I can feel it coming on now, so I only actually fainted the first time, now I just sit down and drink until it goes away. It used to happen in school but it was put down to having not eaten anything, and I was told to wiggle my toes when I have to stand for a while. But it happened again today, and I had eaten, and was wiggling my toes the whole time. I've never gone to a doctor about it, does anyone know what the likely cause is?

Ah, okay. I was just wondering if it is a fairly common thing. I have had my blood pressure checked before (by some chiro students in a random free checkup) and they said it was normal. But I will go in to the doctor I guess. :)

Answers:

Yes, you're experiencing a drop in blood pressure while standing and as a result, less blood is reaching your brain. Without adequate blood flow, your brain can't continue to signal your muscles to stay taught, and you fall down..."faint".

The drop in blood pressure is usually caused by people locking their kness straight while standing. If you bend your kness while standing slightly, or walk while standing still...lifting your kness up from time to time...you can avoid fainting.

...and a drop in blood pressure can also be caused by low blood pressure...which should be checked by a doctor, if that is the case.
