also the place i plan on buying them at has a self check out where i swip the item and pay with debit so it seem theres no way to check

You should never be a "certain" age to buy them but what I don't get ( and maybe it's because I'm a girl) is why get them for "the other thing" as you call it? That makes no sense to me. Please, no details are needed.
BTW, like someone else before me had said, you can get them at the Health Department for free.
