The people who responded above are basically right. Body butter is simply an extremely thick lotion for really dry skin. I have worked for Bath and Body Works and Victoria Secret and can tell you that the consistency varies greatly, but body butter should come in a tub and be so thick you have to scoop it out with your fingers. I'm not so sure about the stretch marks part - they have no real proof of that - but it does wonders for really dry skin on elbows, knees, and feet. I put tons of it on my feet in the winter with socks and my feet stay nice and soft in the cold weather.
The stuff comes in some really yummy smells and the quality of the lotion is much better at a specialty store than somewhere like WalMart - where much of their stuff is cheaply made!
