Can you get HIV from a dog?!

Question:

Can you get HIV from a dog?

I've been through bad things like getting mauled and locked up in a trunk, but nothing as bad as this.

My friends and I were out one day, and one said "Hey Phitgail, whats that over there?". I looked and saw it was a cute dog. I told my friend Caleb that he could have it. So one day, I went to hang out with them at a bar. Caleb came up to me and said, "Can I talk to you outside for a second?". I said "Sure". He told me that he let the dog do something with him...

*sort of explicit, please do not read if under 14*

Something like letting it do something with its tongue, and his...erm...you know..."front part".

I said "What the hell were you thinking?". He then tried to say he didnt know what he was thinking. I said that he might get HIV, which leads to AIDS, and gets rid of his immune system. He got into such a stage of panic that he beat up a bar guest (that we didn't know...). I just need to calm him down. So can he get HIV, and if so, what are the chances?

I already have taken the dog and my girlfriend and I are taking good care of it. I'm just worried about my friend.

Human Immune Virus posters...

That is not true.

You can get it from any sort of primate except apes, and it started with the transformation of a monkey and a man. So no, it cannot come from only humans.

Answers:

You can't get HIV from a dog but if your friend is inclined to have sex with a dog, the dog deserves a better home and you should help get the dog out of there. That is not normal behavior for a guy and I am worried about the dog.
