Sometimes when lying on my back i wake up choking and am sometimes sick?

this freaks me and my wife out.....i am pretty fit and i thought i was healthy......anyone heard of this before?

no i am not overweight and i keep myself fit.......the asthma thing scares me though, i am 41 can i get it at that age.....i thought it was a lifelong thing.

Get to the docs mate !, it could be a number of things, i get acid reflux that does that when i lay down, and its because my stomach produces too much acid, and a spoon of gaviscon before bed takes care of it.
However yours might be something totally different ?.
