Are people born with a "fixed weight?" which they maintain easily? Rea!

Question:

Are people born with a "fixed weight?" which they maintain easily? Read on...?

I'm 5ft and weigh 115 pounds. I'm in a healthy range, but as told by some (including a professional) although I am healthy, my BMI (at 22% now) could be lower.

Here is my problem- I've had a lower BMI (of about 19%) when I lost 5 pounds and weighed 110. At that weight, I stopped getting my period. So even though I was still at a healthy weight and BMI, it obviously wasn't healthy for me in particular.

At 110 I was skinny- flat stomach, size one, etc. Also had to exercise and really watch what I ate.

At 115 I'm average- slightly chubby stomach, size three, etc. I don't have to exercise and can eat until I'm satisfied (not stuff myself, though).

What's the deal ? Do people have fixed weights? What's healthy for one person isn't healthy for another?

Answers:

there is no such thing as a fixed weight, there are "experts" however who recommend that based on our height, we weigh a certain amount and have a certain percent of body fat to be considered healthy. In my opinion, it is all bologna, if you look at alot of people who count calories and try to maintain those strict BMI requirements, they actually look sickly, like a strong wind will knock them over. First of all the way that we eat in this country (portions and types of food) makes it close to impossible to weigh those recommended weights based on height. If you take a look at the majority of these "experts" thay aren't practicing what they preach and often are heavier than the weights they come up with, for their heights. Second, our society has a bad habit of promoting being thin. Thin was in, but thanks to alot of women who got tired of starving themselves to fit into what society classified as beauty, we now know it is ok to be a little curvaceuos, hippy or busty. Thanks to women like Beyonce, J-Lo and Jennifer Love-Hewitt, women are now starting to feel good about being "bootylicious" and having a little "junk in the trunk". All the rail thing models that use to be what society considered the epitome of beauty are now seen as being anorexic, bulimic, drug addicts and are now causing society to eat their words. As more and more young women, aspire to be like these models, they are nearly killing themselves and parents are holding society accountable. You are fine the way that you are, don't starve yourself to fit into someone else's ideals of what you should weigh. You alone know your body and when you don't feel healthy. If you want to alter your image do it for you, not because of what a chart says, because as you said what is healthy for one is not healthy for all. We all are built different. Your doctor was probably telling you the BMI info, FYI. I would never recommend starving yourself, maybe exercise and watch WHAT you eat and the portion, but NOT eating is NOT an option. As long as you feel good and the doctor is not saying you have any negative health issues, don't worry yourself with BMIs and all that. All the best.
