How to stop the burning/stinging of allergy shots?!

Question:

How to stop the burning/stinging of allergy shots?

I have been getting allergy shots for several weeks. They hurt and leave bruises. Is this normal? Do most doctors put bandaids over allergy shots?

Do they rotate the sites of allergy shots? Will they inject on a bruise?

Answers:

Unfortunately, they really hurt. You are probably doing it a lot, it was three times a week when my husband started it. And by the time the redness, swelling, pain, etc went away, they did another shot. It won't be so bad when you do it less often. And, yes, they could put a bandaid on it, but if you don't want them to, it isn't necessary. It doesn't really make a difference either way. Just hold a little pressure on the site for a minute or so after the shot.

They will certainly rotate the site if you ask, if they aren't already. My husband had it done all in his right arm, since he is left handed and couldn't use the arm the shots were done in. It's kind of up to you. If there is anything you want them to do or change definitely speak up.

The good news is that the shots work really well. I promise!

btw, maybe you should talk to your doctor about the possibility of an allergy attack happening during the course of the shots. It doesn't happen to everyone, but it can. Find out about it from your doctor and ask if you should be prescribed a medication to take in case it does happen. These things are less scary when you know what is happening and are prepared.
