How do you keep BIG mosquitos away?!

Question:

How do you keep BIG mosquitos away?

These mosquitos are huge and they don't care about OFF (a brand of mosquito repellant). I've killed many that are an inch and a half tall with a needle-mouth that is half an inch long! I put on off in other places where the mosquitos are smaller and it works fine. But at home, I put on one coat of OFF, and three got me before I got inside to put on a second layer of OFF. It seemed to have no effect, and I was bit by a couple dozen more before I gave up for the night and went inside. I put it on everywhere there was skin exposed, but these things went right through my shirt, pants, and shoes! They also directly attack exposed skin like my throat, my face, my hands and hair. Why are these things so freakin aggressive AND BIG and what should I do to protect myself?

I am in the Houston metropolitan area. I am killing "skeeters" that are from the tip of my finger to a little past the second joint (knuckle) and their needle "mouth" is from the tip to my first joint, so my estimate of their size may be off a little. I'm not from Houston, but I've been in a lot of places and these monsters are HUGE! Anyhow, is the bug zapper worthy of consideration in "skeeter" control. Baking soda doesn't seem to work and I am dubious about the vinegar remedy (posted to a similar question from another person). I put down insecticide last Fall, but how often do you need to do that in order to keep them away? What works for you in killing or keeping away big skeeters?

Answers:

I thought you were talkin' about "big" Skeeters. Come on down here to Houston. You'll see and feel some big mosquitos. Wear dark clothing, they will attack anything white. "off" works, just get the outdoors type.."woodsman" or whatever they call it. Spray insecticide on your lawn...don't have anything holding water..(that's their breeding grounds)...and above all.............keep your kids inside at night. They will scratch the bites and possibly get an infection. When you you feel one biting you....Swat it and kill it anyway you can immedately.
