What do you think about anti biotics............?!

Question:

What do you think about anti biotics............?

personally I think they are awful- I believe they lower the immune system, killing of good bacteria in your gut. Your body can grow used to them and they then become ineffective.
I also believe that they are dished out far too much by Doctors, which I feel is something to do with the pharmaceutical companies and the government? Also Im in the UK is it the same in the US?
please correct me if you feel im wrong. I am not saying that any of this is fact!!!

ps. If they are required beyond reasonable dbout then thats acceptable.

I believe more in alternative therapies _ my doc kept prescibing me antib's for a recurring ear infection. They made me ill. The I had Hopi ear candle treatment and the infection has never returned.

Answers:

I completely agree. I'm in the US, and the way Dr's here push drugs onto us, I think they must be getting paid by the pharmaceutical companies. And it is true that you build up a tolerance to drugs if they are over prescribed. I've often wondered if "drug resistant" illnesses are really that clever, or have we built up such a high tolerance that we can't make an antibiotic strong enough to do any good with the more potent bugs. Also, I've heard that we are building up a tolerance to antibiotics through eating chicken. The chickens that are sent to slaughter are raised in such horribly unsanitary conditions that they are pumped full of antibiotics to keep them from getting too diseased, and then the drugs are passed to us when we eat chicken. I always try to buy free-range, vegetarian-grown chicken.
