Tonsillectomy less painful with smaller tonsils?!

Question:

Tonsillectomy less painful with smaller tonsils?

I'm getting a tonsillectomy next thursday, will I experience less pain with smaller tonsils or will it be about the same?

Also, they said they'll be giving me general anaesthesia, is this the kind where you're actually "awake" but just don't recall anything like I had when my wisdom teeth were removed?

It was just like I had went to sleep. He gave me a shot, and last he asked how I was and the last thing I remember saying was "my head kinda hurts" then I was "asleep" immediately and then what seems like a second later I up "woke up" and my wisdom teeth had been removed. During this type of anaesthesia sometimes people can actually talk to them though they won't remember anything...is it the same for tonsils?

Answers:

Oh no, you will be completely asleep for the surgery. But I'll tell you it does not matter the size of your tonsils, it hurts. I'm twenty and I had my tonsils taken out when I was 17. And It sucks the worst about three days after they are taken out. My advice is whatever you do- don't eat mashed potatoes. It seems funny now until you have a mouthful of potatoes and can't swallow! I also found that ice cream could be rather painful to swallow as well.
