I may need to donate bone marrow to a relative what is involved in the donation !

Question:

I may need to donate bone marrow to a relative what is involved in the donation process?

Answers:

Good for you - it is a generous and brave thing to do.

The link below will explain more. Basically under general anaesthetic you will have injections from your hip into the centre of your femur to draw out the bone marrow. You will have this done all at the same time but it may take up to a hundred injections to gather enough bone marrow (this is a liquid in the bone cavity which produces platelets). Afterwards you will feel sore and stiff but will have no long term effects from having done this - and will have probably saved your relatives life.
