Majority of Men Avoid Preventive Health Measures. - Do you agree?!
Question:
Majority of Men Avoid Preventive Health Measures. - Do you agree?
I read an article which had some figures below
The AAFP recently surveyed 2,282 men and women across the country about their health behaviors.
Among the findings:
-- 55% of all men surveyed have not seen their primary care physician for a physical exam within the past year.
-- 42% men have been diagnosed with at least one of the following chronic conditions: high blood pressure, arthritis, cancer or diabetes.
-- Almost one in five men (18%) 55 years and older have never received the recommended screening for colon cancer.
-- More than one out of four men (29%) say they wait "as long as possible" before seeking help when they feel sick or are in pain or are concerned about their health.
-- Despite this, 79% men describe themselves as in "Excellent," "Very Good," or "Good" health.
Question: Which group do you fall in?
I am in group 1 but feel i am in good health.

Answers:
My thoughts, I did not read the article, so pardon any errors:
#1 - that yearly physical exam has been extended to 2 years for younger men. So 55% is not an alarming #.
#2 - women get accused of "letting themselves go" after marriage, however men have a higher incidence of obesity than women. Most of those conditions are secondary to obesity.
#3 - With about that % of Americans being without health insurance, that # is not surprising. I know for those few years I was uninsured I did not get the colonoscopy on schedule.
#4 - with copays and coinsurance I think we all wait until we have something urgent before we give in and go to the doctor.
#5 - I think thats relative- chronic conditions don't count in most of our minds- we think if we don't have CA we are doin fine.....
As for skyline - where is that proven? I am a health professional, who has to keep informed to keep employed, I know of no such proof!!!
