Answers:

Food substances:
Pomegranate juice, garlic, grapefruit juice, oily fish (mackeral, sardines, skippers, sild, fresh tuna, salmon), walnuts, almonds, oat bran, oatmeal, green tea, pulses, celery, advocado, extra virgin olive oil.

Health supplements:
gum guggul, globe artichoke extract, Niacin (a B Vitamin), fish oil capsules, soy lecithin, psyllium husk powder, flax seed powder.

Your Grandma would have to avoid grapefruit juice if she is on cholesterol lowering medicine or certain medication. The same applies to garlic if she is on blood thinning medication.

Niacin (B Vitamin) is best taken as part of a Vitamin B Complex. it can sometimes cause facial flushing when it is first taken but this is nothing to be alarmed about. Plus your Grandma would have to seek medical advice before taking it if she is on insulin. It is supposed to be very effective in lowering cholesterol, as effective as over the counter anti-cholesterol drugs but without the nasty side effects.

If your Grandma is on medication it is always best for her to check with a pharmacist first before taking any herbal supplements because of drug-herb ineractions that can occur with some drug and herb combinations..

Hope this helps.
Best wishes for your Grandma.
