Is it normal to have dents in your back?!

Is it normal to have dents in your back?

I have two dimples at the base of my spine, one on each side. I also get a lot of lower back pain. What are the dimples and are they related to the back ache? (I've had them since birth by the way).

It's odd if they are genetic, because neither of my parents has them! I'm not sure about my brother though - I'll ask him.

They aren't related to back pain, they're just a genetic inheritance. My wife and daughter both have them, I don't. Apparently my mother-in-law has them too, but I can't say I've checked...
