Is there some kind of leg brace/support for a non-amputed right leg?!

Question:

Is there some kind of leg brace/support for a non-amputed right leg?

Leg was crippled in a field hockey accident 30 years ago. Use crutches and a wheelchair at work. The leg cannot be amputated because doctors fear if it becomes infected it could then infect the left leg and both might be amputated. Other than that, left leg fine. Toes amputed on right foot.

Is there some kind of apparatus out now that can attach to the right leg so as to walk without crutches? A brace, orthotic support, etc.? Thank you so much for your time - I've tried looking it up online but couldn't find anything, not sure of the best way to search as I don't really know the name of what I'm looking for.

Much appreciated!

The knee is bendable. She hasn't much feeling in the leg at all so I imagine it would be full support - the one (bulky) piece she did try attached to her thighs and had a sort of 'table' where her leg and foot rested, and from the knee down full support (along with a foot brace). The leg is held behind her so the apparatus would have to attach at the thigh and knee. I know I'm probably saying this all wrong, sorry. I wish I could draw a pic! She is able to bend the leg and move it underneath the other when she's feeling very strong "shadow" pain. (I hate that word, because it makes the intensity of the pain seem almost unreal. This is real, constant, terrible pain, but she goes to a pain clinic for it, and refuses to take anything while she is working). Thanks, Raven!

Answers:

How much support will you need, and for the entire leg or just the lower leg? Is the knee bendable?
