Does the sun at different time have different purposes for tanning or absorbing !
Question:
Does the sun at different time have different purposes for tanning or absorbing of vitamin D?
i was told that the sun before 10am is best for vitamin D, while the sun in the late noon is best for tanning.
can someone provide detailed insight about these sayings? thanks in advance.
Answers:
This may be true.
Sunlight causes melanin in the skin to produce vitamin d. Before 10am, sunlight is weaker due to the angle it comes in at; but it still has the effect on the skin due to the presence of the light itself.
Generally speaking, the sun's rays are at their most harmful from 10am-2pm, when the sun is overhead and the rays are able to pierce through the ionosphere and atmosphere without losing much energy. These rays are "best" for tanning, because they cause the most damage.
