How do you get fluid out of your Eustachian tube?!

Question:

How do you get fluid out of your Eustachian tube?

I've been on medication for six months and nothing has worked. I've been on antibiotics, ear drops, and had a tube put in my ear. I need another answer besides medication.

Answers:

You don't normally have fluid in the eustachian tube unless it's blocked, and the cure for that is to decongest the nose and ears- usually with medication. If you have a tendency to hold in sneezes, you can also blow stuff back up in them - folks that hold their noses when they sneeze often feel it blow the ear drums. Snuffling instead of blowing will do it as well. You can clear the eustachian tube, providing it's not blocked completely, by closing your mouth, holding your nose, and gently blowing the nose against the pinched fingers. If the tube is clear, you will notice the ear drums pop. If you still have the tube in your ear, though, this is not an option for you. A tube in the ear helps drain the ear itself, and you just have to take care not to get water inside when you shower, bathe or swim. It can also take a tube a while to let the ear heal itself, especially if you have had troubles for a long time prior. It's not unheard of for it to take a full year, sometimes. In the meantime, it's a combo of medications, drops and the tube to keep it uninfected and drained so it can heal. You will just have to be patient a while longer and stay the course with the medications. They do work, it just takes a while, as there is a fair amount of healing to be done.
