Answers:

Keep in mind that your therapist has your best interest in mind (I hope). As a therapist I care that my patients will be able to regain their function and return to the things they like to do...and hopefully avoid having a manipulation. (Procedure where they give you a light sedative and the surgeon takes the knee and bends it really hard to break the scar tissue).

You did not say what type of knee surgery your had, but if you've been IMMOBILIZED for the past two weeks, I would say that being able to bend it only 30 degrees may be normal, but it should increase. If you have been allowed to bend it over the past two weeks and you've ONLY got 30 degrees, you may very well be on your way to developing adhesive scar tissue in the joint. Your progress will need to be monitored carefully. If you've had a simple scope, or even if you've had total knee replacement, you should be bending in much further than this by now.

It would also be helpful to know if there are any restrictions the surgeon has given you...for instance, if he only wants you bending it to a certain degree, then the therapist should be made aware of this (if she isn't already).

Yet, the therapist should always make the best efforts to put the patient's mind at ease...if you are too scared to come back, then we have not done our job properly.

Hang in there...good luck!
