Are Nurse Practitioners worthless?!

Question:

Are Nurse Practitioners worthless?

I've seen two different NPs twice for two different problems, and both times they've prescribed a course of treatment that I was later told by different doctors (both very good) wasn't right. I understand that worthless is a harsh term, and that generalizing usually leads to incorrect conclusions, but seriously, has anyone ever had a good experience with a NP?

I think there's a difference between disagreement and completely prescribing the wrong course of treatment.

"Just to clue folks in, docs aren't really all that appreciative of nurses, and if they have a bit more education, well let's just say, YOU better know what you're talking about or you're going to be bashed. I would like to ask you more questions."

Trust me, I know what I'm talking about.

Worthless is definitely a harsh term - but I understand the frustration. The reality though is that even physicians will disagree with the course of treatment from time to time. A N.P. is generally very capable of handling basic matters - and are currently being employed by more and more medical facilities on the grounds that it is more cost efficient. Luckily however, medicine is a field in which differing ideas and research lead to better treatment. I speak positive about N.Ps because they contribute significantly to functionality of our clinic - and overall score very high on patient satisfaction surveys. Hope you have a better experience next time,
