Why do I have so much of a problem gaining weight?!

Question:

Why do I have so much of a problem gaining weight?

What could be all the possible reasons why a person might have a tough time gaining weight? I cannot say that I am a very good eater, but at the same time, its not like I eat absolutely nothing. Its just that my looks and weight, don't jibe with the way I eat.

My weight has never been really that consistent with the way I eat, and I always did feel like something didn't make sense. Just assumed I was being too analytical, and figured things would get better. But things haven't and am I at a point where I do feel like this is something that needs to be addressed.

I have always been underweight, short, anemic, tired and skinny. I also remember having frequent bouts of diarrhoea when I was growing up. I remember having like at least one episode of diarrhoea per year, especially since I was 13 years old... And also remember skipping school, or having horrible days when not in school...

Answers:

From what you've said, you don't eat enough, plain and simple. In order to gain weight, you have to ingest more calories than you use. For most people that means hearty meals 3 to 5 times a day. ("Its not like I eat absolutely nothing." sounds like you eat almost nothing.)
Since you mention the sickness, it may be a side-effect of a different cause for your situation. Maybe you should see a doctor about Tapeworm or other intestinal problems. A tapeworm is a large parasite that feeds off of the food you eat. Or you may have diarrhea-ed out all of your beneficial intestinal bacteria. You could try eating a lot of yogurt to help make up for this. I have seen ads for Dannon, I think, that contains cultures of L. casei immunitas, which are beneficial.
