Can you tell me the names of the prescription sleeping meds?!

Question:

Can you tell me the names of the prescription sleeping meds?

My stupid doctor knows only one med; Stilnox.

And I already know that there is Diphenhydramine (Benedryl).

Do you know other prescription sleeping meds?

Answers:

Ambien (Zolpidem), Lunesta, Sonata (zaleplon), Somnol (flurazepam), Restoril, Temazepam, (Elavil) amitryptiline, Trazedone, Clonipin, there are so many!!! Your doctor should know, maybe he was just suggesting the most appropriate for you. Have you tried anything? I have tried an air filter (sounds funny, I know) but it helps, that constant noise drowns out a lot of other noises and can help you sleep. Sleep aids can be addictive and should not be used too long, I am all for non prescription alternatives. Try Melatonin, Kava Kava and Valerian root. You can get those at GNC, Whole Foods, or any nutrition center. They work wonders and are all natural. Don't take them all together, though. Just try one at a time and decide which one works best for you. Read the directions carefully and don't use more than the recommended amount. This could save you some time and money and another doctor's visit! Good luck!
