Tonsillectomy at 16?!

Question:

Tonsillectomy at 16?

I Recently (the 17th) had an abscess on my tonsil, i had to go to the hospital and i got my first IV and it scared me.

The next day (the 18th) they sent me to get it drained. This was scary and painful seeing how they used a syringe while i was wide awake.

I went back yesterday for a check up, and the doctor said that on a scale of 1-4 my tonsils are 3+. And he told me i need to get them removed or else i'll just get another abscess.

Im terrified. Im getting them removed july 24th, and im scared to death. Like I wanna cry kind of scared.

What if the anestheic doesnt work?
How bad Will the Pain be?
What should i expect?

I really am scared to death so i want the truth, not candy coated.

Answers:

I was 18 when I had my tonsils out. The anaesthetic worked perfectly. Because it is a quick operation you recover from the anaesthetic very quickly. I won't tell you your throat won't hurt because it will!! For the first couple of days soft soothing food is best and it is a really good excuse to eat ice-cream. Don't worry about it, for a few days of discomfort you will have a lifetime without a sore throat.
